3rd Annual RSS National Peoples Day Celebration
We hosted our third annual RSS National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration on June 14 and June 17. On the first day, we welcomed Musqueam knowledge keeper Alec Dan to open our 3rd annual RSS National Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration. He spoke about his heritage and reminded us what a privilege it is to be able to share our cultures with the world. In our ongoing work towards reconciliation, students and staff watched a screening of “Musqueam Through Time” learning about Musqueam history and understanding that Musqueam are the first people of this land and continue to practice their traditional culture today. On our second day, we hosted artist talks with Edwin Neel and Kwiis Hamilton. Both artists shared their stories and their journey as artists. For both, family has greatly influenced their work.
